Determination

My mom is 90 years old. She has a will of iron and always has. Her doctor said it right when he told her, "You're not stubborn. You're determined!"

Well, Mom has some determined hairs on her chin that she is determined to terminate. Yesterday, in the pouring rain and cold, she drove to my salon where she met with our new electrologist.

There before her, as large as a mountain, loomed the stairs which she had to climb to get to the treatment room. As my dad stood there muttering, "This is a bad idea. This is not good.", Leah and I supported her ascent. Leah took her arm and I hoisted her hip each time she raised her leg. Step by step we inched our way to the top.

Once there, Mom victorious straightened up and said, "I made it! What price beauty!"

Another reason women get permanent eyebrows

Today I applied permanent eyebrows on a woman who confided to me that she is obsessive/compulsive. She would spend at least 45 minutes each morning applying her eyebrows with pencil. Even after she had them "perfect" she would go off with the feeling that they were not. This thought plagued her because having perfect eyebrows was an obsession.

I used to be afraid to do permanent makeup on women like this, thinking that they would never be satisfied. Surprisingly, it is the opposite. They are relieved and free to never have to try to make them look perfect again. It's a liberation for them.

Eyebrows.........a long time coming!

Part of my work is giving people beautiful permanent eyebrows. Let me tell you about one of my recent clients.
Annie (not her real name) is 82 years old. She and her husband came in together for a consultation. After asking all their questions and receiving satisfactory answers, she booked for a permanent eyebrow procedure.

Because she had physical limitations, I agreed to move all my equipment downstairs so she wouldn't have to negotiate the climb to the second floor.

The amazing thing about Annie's story is not only that she would get a cosmetic tattoo at such an age, but also that she has been without eyebrows since she was fourteen! She has a condition called Alopecia and began to lose her hair as a teenager until she lost every hair on her body.

She wears a wig and has had to painstakingly apply her eyebrows with a pencil for over sixty years!

It made me so happy to know that, since receiving the permanent eyebrows, she will be free from embarrassment, stigma and the inconvenience of daily makeup application.
